Forest Schools
We are very fortunate to have our very own ancient woodland on site at Collingtree which our children have access to all year round.
Once a week our children in reception, year 1 and year 2 take part in our Forest School sessions which we call 'Welly Wednesdays'.
Our Welly Wednesday sessions are child-centred inspirational learning time, that offers opportunities for holistic growth. It is a long-term program that supports play, exploration and supported risk taking. It develops confidence and self-esteem through learner inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural setting.
It is child centred with activities led by the children’s interests. Learning outside our children develop independence, perseverance and a love of the outdoors and nature. The children take part in nature hunts, building habitats for minibeasts, create dens with team work and respect at the core of their activities. Welly Wednesday sessions encourage risk taking and getting dirty, climbing trees is a particular favourite! Our children see their Welly Wednesday sessions as a time to learn new skills, a time to learn respect for their environment and a time to be calm and enjoy the outdoors at their own pace.
We also use our woodland to provide Forest School SEND sessions for small groups of children which are led by Miss Graham. These are timetabled carefully and are designed to support children's wellbeing by connecting with nature.
All children then have the opportunity to explore our on site woodland every Friday during breaktimes in our Forest Friday sessions. Our children look forward to this time each week and live out our school values of community, respect and thankfulness while having the spiritual opportunity to connect with self, others, nature and greater.
